I had a Whirley Pop for a couple of years and it was a cheaper version with plastic gears. The gears eventually failed and I had to use 2 oven mitts to safely pop the popcorn and then the lid finally failed. I'm cheap, but I chose a more expensive one. I'm so glad I did. It's much stronger and the gears are metal. I just bought it so I can't vouch for its durability but I can say it's a much nicer model. It came with a sample of popcorn, a bag of butter and salt which was nice. The company I bought it from is a small business and they sent two additional emails to make sure I was happy. My family tries to support small businesses as much as possible, so it was just more butter for popcorn (i.e. icing on the cake, but the popcorn analogy seemed more appropriate).
