AR was famous for its stereo speakers and components. When I saw this radio I decided to give it a try. The quality and volume of this little speaker is amazing. The reception is excellent. I tested it on an Apple Dock with two 3" speakers and a 12" radio antenna. The apple with the antenna extended fell apart and had static electricity. This AR sounded great on the same station alongside the Apple. I went to the place with the best reception and tried both options again. In fact, despite being mono, AR gave the best sound on both FM stations in first and second place. The outer shell is provided with a non-slip rubber coating. The dial is a slide rule. The only thing is that the reception on this radio is so good it picks up a lot more stations than other radios so tuning is a bit finicky. Arrived at the station, it does not drift. I've found that when I pick up a radio and turn it on, I sometimes knock it out of service.
