Replaced dying xenon headlights in a 2001 Acura TL

My low beam headlights came on but when the temp was in the 30's or colder or when it was raining the driver's side lights went out after a few minutes but the low beam did Passenger light stayed on. Turning the light off and back on fixes the problem temporarily at first, but eventually stops working. The HID bulbs were only a year old and after some online reading I found that the OEM ballast and possibly the igniter were failing (both prone to moisture damage). Rather than buying a used ballast (which will likely have the same issues) or going for a new aftermarket HID kit (ballast, igniter, HID bulb), I decided to upgrade my low beam bulbs to these LEDs (D2Rs). . Obviously every car is different and I am not responsible for any damage or injury so read below at your own discretion! Here's how I installed these LED bulbs: After removing the bumper and assembling the headlight assembly: I removed the front bumper (found a video on YouTube, most Japanese cars have access to both low beam bulbs this way), then I did both unscrewed my headlight assemblies, and then disconnected all the connections and brought the assemblies inside. I twisted and removed the protective cap to access the HID bulb and I disconnected, unscrewed and removed the igniter, ballast and HID bulb from the headlight assembly. I have disposed of these items safely and correctly as the LED bulbs did not require them. There was a rubber grommet with two tiny holes through which the original wires came out of the headlight assembly. I removed this bushing by pulling it into the headlight assembly. Wearing the anti-static gloves that came with the bulbs, I inserted the new LED bulb into the headlight assembly in the same direction and manner as the HID bulb, secured the bulb with the wire clamp that was part of my headlight assembly, and I have made sure that the LED lamp is firmly attached to the supplied round socket. There is also a small "box" attached to the LED lamp; I also placed this tiny box inside the headlight assembly and secured it with the included zip ties to keep it from moving. I then routed the new LED bulb's wires through the hole where the grommet used to be (I didn't put the grommet back in as it had two tiny holes for the wires, and in this LED bulb the two wires are together connected the pins of the connector). I first made sure the protective cap would clean the LED bulb (which has a fan underneath) and then I put the protective cap back on the headlight assembly to cover the bulb. I've read online that some people don't put the cap back on, they just put tape on it, either because the original cap doesn't clean the LED bulb or to better vent the LED bulb, but that's what I figured ever since I got it With the cap removed the grommet is where the wires exit the headlight assembly, there is adequate airflow and minimal overheating while retaining moisture. Having to remove the bumper and having access to other bulbs (daylight and high beam) I decided to swap them out as well (I just used regular halogen bulbs as they weren't HID bulbs for my car). in lightbulbs: I didn't know what the power supply terminal originally connected to the ballast looked like, so I ordered these LED bulbs because they have positive and negative pins (no terminal/connector like other LED bulbs I've seen have at Amazon). I found them "more universal". I plugged the red and black wires directly into the power supply connector, making sure to insert them into the correct holes. I then wrapped the connection very well with a ton of duct tape, covering the power supply terminal and the LED lamp wire pins so nothing showed. I was also going to use shrink wrap or some sort of tubing, but ended up using a lot of tightly wrapped tape. Connected daytime and high beam bulb. I checked the headlights to make sure they worked, then screwed the headlights back into place and reinstalled the bumper. Overall: These LED bulbs are great and produce the same amount of light as my HID bulbs. I made sure to mount them in the same direction as my HID lights and get the same directivity. If I don't put my ear to the headlights when they're on, I can't hear the LED bulb fans. I've currently had about 3 hours with these LED bulbs (over an hour on a single driving session) and haven't had any issues, but will update over time. Hope they last longer than my car! And if there are any problems in the future, at least I know that it will most likely just be a bulb and I won't have to worry about troubleshooting other parts (like ballast, ignitor, etc.).
