A little out of line.

I won't be shooting many stars, but this step stool seemed pretty flimsy to me. Enough that I don't mind just using my plastic folding chair as a stool again. One thing that is great about this stool is that it is really easy to fold and unfold. I was surprised by the design of the stool. . I was expecting the side legs to be made out of really hard, inflexible plastic. But the plastic is not super hard. It is easily bendable. And I expected all of the side legs and hinges to be securely locked in place with no room for movement. But the two narrow sides simply dangle freely and partially fold over on the middle hinges. I think this stool is sturdy enough that you don't have to worry about it breaking or wobbling. But it's not as solid a feeling as I was hoping. I'm a bit nervous about standing on a stool, but I think it's mostly or probably safe. I've studied the design and seem to understand how it works. Broad front and hind legs turned outwards. Without the narrow side legs, the wider front and back side legs would likely have buckled further outward until the stool collapsed. This is where the narrow side legs come into play. They prevent the front and back legs from slipping too far and keep the front and back legs a certain distance apart. Ultimately, it gives the stool stability. Another good thing about this stool is that everything looks like plastic. So you don't have to worry about rust. I can't imagine ever using it in a wet environment like a shower, but it's nice to know you wouldn't have to worry about metal rusting then. And I'm sure other people will use this outdoors where there might be lawn sprinklers, squirt guns, or rain. I don't like the raised anti-slip lugs on the upper. I was in dire need of an 18 inch gray stool and this was the only option available. But those bulges at the top are uncomfortable when you're standing barefoot on a stool. I use this stool indoors where I am always barefoot. I don't want to wear socks and shoes just to stand on. In addition, one of the images of this product describes these bumps as "pleasant massage for your buttocks". Be honest. I've tried sitting on it and it hurts like hell. Instead, I would be much more comfortable sitting on a flat surface. This is not a massage. This is torture. I use it as a stool. But I wish I had a 16" instead, maybe even shorter than a 16". I think this is because the step stool has little surface area at the top, it's so high and there is no back of the chair to grab onto or hold on to. And maybe also because 18" isn't the right size for a 5'11" person like me. I also thought gray would be a good color but I think if I order the step stool again I'll go with white instead So yes, if I had to order the exact same step stool again, I would order a 15-16" white step stool with a flat surface instead of knobs. But as I said in the title of my review, I'm a little underwhelmed, so I'm still weighing my options to see if there's a better alternative, unfortunately it doesn't seem like there isn't. So my advice is to give it a try, but 18" is too much and you can get a non-slip stool in this one Finding style without the huge awkward bumps on the top I would also go for a lighter color but that's a matter of preference and up to you.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • I could have chosen a newer model
