Very good design with a possible flaw

5/12/18 Update: It has been almost 16 months since I bought this product. So I wanted to update my original post below. My main concern was that the plastic flipbar would break, but that didn't happen. The flip bar is still holding. Of course, I keep my laptop stand on my desk and don't move it so it doesn't get too stressed. I added an improvement to prevent the laptop from sliding on the pole. I wrapped a large rubber band around the plastic platform and bottom of the laptop and this kept it from sliding out. I still love the stand and it's functionality and hope the bar continues to hold up. This is a good product. Original Review: I received this stand for my 17 inch laptop two days ago. Overall I am very satisfied so far. This is a very good design with one exception. The plastic flip bar on the front that holds the laptop in place is too flimsy to keep my laptop from sliding off. When I first started using it, it didn't hold up very well, and it slid down a 3/4 inch wide plastic rod despite being bonded to a rubber top. After thinking for a while I decided to tape a strip of fabric shelf wrap (thick sticky kind) to the inside of the plastic strip. It made a big difference and the laptop stayed in place. However, I don't actually use the device on my lap, so it can't be moved. I don't know if he will stay in this situation. Also, the plastic bar is flimsy and the pins that hold it to the stand are (in my opinion) too small and flimsy. I'm afraid that with time and use, the plastic pins will break and the laptop will fall. Because of this fear, I don't leave him unattended for long. I'm surprised the manufacturer didn't use metal for this important part, nor did they put a burr on the edge to keep the laptop from riding up. It would be hard to believe that many trials of any length were made. Time will tell how long this lasts. For now, I'm standing by because I haven't seen anything better or proven. The stand is very stable except in the lowest position and when not using the height when the laptop gets heavy and tends to tilt backwards. I enjoy using and typing and no longer have a stiff neck from bending over (the reason I bought it). I'll take care of the broken plastic stick if and when it does (which I think eventually will) either by jury or (as a last resort) is returned. So far I'm enjoying the ease of using it.
