Review on ๐Ÿ‘ถ Motorola Baby Monitor VM855 - Enhanced WiFi Video Baby Monitor with 2 Cameras, Phone App Connectivity, 1000ft Range, Two-Way Audio, Split-Screen & Remote Control Features by Ian Hallford

Decent picture quality but not worth it.

This baby monitor kit does not work well enough to justify the high price. Also, the coasters in the kit smell like mold (nothing else smells). Image of decent quality. There's enough detail to make out little things like breathing. but the delay is weird. The delay ranges from 1/2 to 2 seconds, which can be annoying when trying to rotate the camera to look for a room. Panning becomes unresponsive as it moves 20% of the screen width simply by tapping the controls. Digital zoom pauses the image briefly before downloading the updated image. The cameras have speakers and microphones, and the sound quality is okay. You can also play sounds. There are 10 songs: Twinkle Little Star, Sweet Piano Lullaby, Music Box Sound, White Noise, Calm Emotional Classic, Rock Bye Baby, Campanula Sound, Sea Wave Sound, Natural Bird Song, Old Man Music Box. There are also 10 stories, four of which are read by a woman and six by a man. but I haven't heard any of them before and the speaker quality is too poor to really understand much of what is being said. Stories: Not Now Bernard, Poppy Puppy, Lucky Poppy Puppy, Dr. Xargle and the Grounders, Halibut Jackson, Christmas Dirty Puppy, Angry Arthur, Elmer Again, "Elmer in the snow", "Elmer". Each of these sound cycles ended at some point. There is a volume control. Each cell also has a thermometer. A 2/4/6 hour timer is available which can be handy for feeding intervals. The screen can also be set to never turn off or turn off after 5/30/60 minutes. There's a slight lack of screen brightness adjustment. It doesn't get dark enough for the night. You can turn off the screen and the speakers will keep playing. In addition, the monitor has a series of indicators that light up when the controlled camera picks up noise - I find this a very useful feature when you need to mute the sound or can't hear the monitor. The monitor is a joke and falls apart very easily when touched. Antennas are a joke too. It takes too much strength to rise above the body. It can come loose but the 3 sets of monitors I received from Motorola were the same design and all are very difficult to open by hand. This can be a problem in large houses. The 2x2 grid mode is a great feature. However, you cannot control cameras in this view. But the intercom seems to work. Unfortunately, although I have other Motorola cameras, I couldn't get them to work properly with this model. The VM36XL, VM50G and VM85 cameras connect to the monitor and work properly, but there are two issues. Firstly, the VM36XL and VM50G only have 5 sounds preloaded. So if you use these monitors to play a song/sound/story they don't have, they will produce a horrible hiss instead. Second, the default VM855 camera no longer displays anything when syncing cameras from other models in 2x2 grid mode. Everything works well when looked at individually, but not all together. The monitor is charged via a standard 3.5 x 1.35mm positive center 5V 1000mA plug, and the built-in cable length is approximately 6 feet. The cameras are USB-C powered and the included adapters are rated at 1500mA and have cables that are around 6ft long - although both have ring loops on the cable so some other cables/sources may not work or the image quality continues deteriorate . . The cameras have standard screw mounts - 1/4-20 UNC on the bottom. Made in China.
