Not a bad tank, but with some major design flaws and bad lighting.

I bought this aquarium to transition from a fish tank to a small (12" x 12") table in my living room. I wanted the largest capacity tank that I could fit at the end of a table with enough room and this fit the bill. Its proportions differ from those of conventional similarly shaped bow tanks; it takes up less horizontal space per container (3.5 gallons and only takes up about 9 inches by 11 inches). It has a beautiful aesthetic design. I love the recessed feed tube, it turns into a downward facing tube (don't worry you can't see it, it doesn't go under the bottom edge of the lid) which prevents water from sloshing out and you don't have to worry about one either over small feed doors that break down over time, as has happened to me with similarly small aquariums. The filter is fine, it is an internal mains filter, not an underground one as stated in the title of the offer. The filter is very quiet, in fact I can't say I've ever heard a sound from it, unless the water level gets too low, in which case I hear the ripple of water going into the tank. However, if I didn't have so little space to work, I would choose a different tank for the following reason: The lighting is really not very bright. It's not nearly as bright as the pictures show. The colored light settings are good, but the white light setting is very dim and the light really only projects the beam to a 3 inch area in the center of the bottom of the tank and doesn't give much light to the rest of the tank. I hardly notice the light in the tank during the day when it's already light in my apartment. be completely submerged in water, so the water level should remain approximately 1 inch below the tank cap. I don't think it looks very nice. Likewise. If the water level is too low, there will be noise and tiny bubbles from the water flowing out of the filter into the tank. While there isn't a lot of fumes in this tank since the lid seals the tank fairly well, this can be an issue. My other issue with the filter is that it is designed to use a cartridge. I don't even know which cartridge because I use a different filter media and not cartridges. Here's why I don't like cartridges and why I think this filter can cause problems for inexperienced fish farmers and possibly even kill a lot of fish: uneaten food, faeces, etc. break down into very toxic chemicals. The main purpose of the filter is to breed bacteria that will eat those chemicals and convert them into much less toxic ones. It takes a full month or more for these bacteria to grow enough to help your aquarium. Once you have those good bacteria after the first month the water will become much more stable and your fish will be healthier, less stressed and you won't have to do as many water changes. In most cases, fish die in a new tank because they lack the good bacteria to break down the waste. These good bacteria grow on porous things like sponges and filter floss in the midst of a large flow of water. . With this filter, bacteria grow on the fabric part of the filter cartridge. There is activated charcoal in the cartridge which helps to remove other chemicals (but not waste chemicals) for very short periods of time and when in use it needs to be changed frequently. Unfortunately, there is a very big problem with throwing away that cartridge and putting in a new one: yes, there are tiny amounts of these good bacteria in the water, gravel, etc., but not enough to really help the water in your aquarium, and it's going to be a whole new month of toxic water and stressed fish before you grow enough good bacteria on a new cartridge. This happens with every cartridge change. So if you bought this tank and changed the cartridges every month, a lot of fish would die if you didn't change the water every few days. cartridges and other filter materials. You can buy suitable filter sponges or use the small filter sponges made for other filters (I plan to use aquaclear 20 filter sponges). Be sure to use at least two filter sponges/cloths. If they get too dirty, replace one, but never switch both together and don't throw one out too often, like every two weeks or less (this gives bacteria a chance to grow on the new sponge). This way you always have enough good bacteria in your filter to keep the water stable and by only throwing away one sponge at a time you never throw away all the good bacteria. Don't worry if the sponge looks dirty, that's not its main purpose, again, the most important thing a sponge (and a filter) does is to breed good bacteria. I only change the sponges when they are so clogged and dirty that the water isn't going through the filter well. Don't worry about charcoal, you don't actually need charcoal in the filter, I don't use it at all and I haven't noticed any side effects in 10 years of fish farming. A porous material with good bacteria is much more important. If you are currently using this cartridge filter and wish to switch to sponges or floss, simply cut the floss (cloth-like) from your cartridge and place it in your new sponge/floss pads. This way you don't waste beneficial bacteria growing on the cartridge.
