More modern foldable models in this class just don't "cook". They may be smaller, look prettier and so on, but they don't cook. They keep things warm or even warm them up over time, but don't actually cook. Believe me, I've tried almost all types and I'll come back to this one. It's ugly, like an old lunch box, but it works and gets HOT. Like all of these, they are designed to fail after a few years. 12v connectors only use the cheapest plastic and I've had two instances in the last ten years of the connection point failing. Coming back to this model, I'm quite conscious of how I feel about this connection. The main downside is the inability to "unplug" the cable from the case (like a laptop) so it's always in the way when you're trying to store it. It would be nice if you could just detach the cord from the lunch box and tuck it away when not in use. However, if you are looking for a "plate" for a DC car, then this is what you need.
