Review on πŸ”Š Enhance Your DIY Sound System with PAM8406 Mini Audio Amplifier Board - 2.0 Dual Channel, 5W+5W Power Amp Module, DC 5V by Kimmi Willett

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very pretty. Requires no soldering.

A lot of attention has clearly been paid to aesthetics. With convenient screw terminals and a 3/8" stereo input jack, it's a breeze to connect and get up and running. The only thing that bothers me is the lousy noise immunity. They are therefore not suitable for power supply directly from the power pack. USB port for PC. They also place very high demands on a good and clean external power supply. Even a 5 volt phone/tablet/phablet charger will cause a hum, although it's only really noticeable when the computer is idle. This is my second pair. I initially didn't get a refund due to cold soldering which I was able to fix but please don't tell Revain. Pros: Small size fits well in a tiny box. Screw terminals and socket for all connections. volume control. On/off switch integrated in the volume control. Good sound quality. More than enough power for PC speakers. Cons: Very sensitive to noise without proper power supply. in IT, and I don't care if you do it or not. If you don't normally write reviews then don't say so and just don't do it. do I recommend them? Absolutely. Just know what you're getting beforehand. EDIT 2021-06-09: Wolverine, as punishment I removed the zero resistance resistor connecting the 9 MODE pin to +5V and shorted the pad to GND, changing the operating mode to AB. You better have decent tools and soldering skills if you try this. That zero ohm resistor I believe is 0804 (which means it's very, very small). The difference is a much cleaner sound, but at the cost of much worse efficiency. The current load has increased from approx. 10 mA to 30-40 mA. I didn't care because I don't use it in a portable app. What it also did, however, was an unacceptable hum when the computer was asleep. I don't have one, so I swapped it out for an unmodified amp.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
