Definitely space-saving.
I installed them on the back of a closet door to save closet space. They worked pretty well except I forgot to wipe down the door on the first one I installed and it keeps falling off. Other than that, once I found out what happened and wiped the doors, everyone else stayed where they were. I bought 12 total and installed 8 of them. They also don't seem to be able to handle heavier shoes like chunky heeled pumps. So I leave them on the floor and hang up my lighter heels, sandals and a pair of slippers. They also don't hold thinner shoes like flip flops, which they fall through.
