Review on πŸ“Έ IPEVO VZ-1 HD VGA/USB Dual-Mode Document Camera (CDVU-05IP): Enhance Visual Presentations with Clear and Versatile Imaging by Louis Mechtak

The device never worked, the software crashed when turning on the camera

We bought this device hoping to use it in a school environment. My wife tried to get it working with the help of her IT guy at school. It did not work. I took the device and tried it on my machines but it didn't work. Simple webcam software that just works cannot extract images from it. When loading my Java based software stack, the system still cannot be used on Linux. Other systems like webcams work great with many tools. I then downloaded their software into my Windows 10 VM and transferred it to the VM via USB. The moment I turned on the camera, Windows performed a hard reset. The company's response is: a) we do not support Ubuntu with the imaging software for this camera (ignoring the fact that it is on their website as a downloadable installation package) and b) they do not support running it in a virtual machine . With such support. Needless to say, I do not recommend this camera, software or imaging company. We bought an Elmo MX-1 camera which I tried on a Linux machine and it worked great the first time without any effort. It worked fine in Windows 10 VM. No problem.

Pros
  • Robust IPEVO Presenter software with a full set of image capture tools (only for computer mode)
Cons
  • weak
