Soft. Velcro isn't traditional, it's plastic so not as strong so it's a lot easier to pull the baby out of the diaper as he gets stronger. They are also slightly larger for a newborn so unless you tend to have larger babies it will be loose defeating the purpose of the tight swaddling. However, babies grow very quickly, so after about a month it shouldn't matter if your baby still wants to be changed by then.
