You can program this machine to stop the needle in the UP position.

In general I am quite satisfied with the machine. There are a few specific things I found: Several reviewers said they were unhappy with the fact that the needle always ends in the down position and cannot be changed. That is not right. It's pre-programmed with the needle pointing down, but the instructions tell you how to reset it so it ends up in the up position. This is quite simple: You turn off the machine, press the button indicated in the book, and turn the machine back on. hold down the button. It then always lands on the top position, which is what most of us want. The other two things mentioned in other reviews are correct. First, the LED light isn't very bright. If I didn't have a separate light directly above the machine, it would be difficult to see detail while sewing. Second, the screen listing the stitch options and lengths is difficult to read. There is no backlight and the screen does not light up. In my car, the main light comes from above and behind, so not much light comes from the front. I actually have a small flashlight next to the car that shines on the screen so I can see the information clearly. It was easy to learn how to thread the machine for the bobbin and for sewing. The self tapping screw is not as easy to use as my old brother but after a few tries it works. The needle threader seems to keep hitting other parts of the machine when I try to use it. I like that you don't have to pull the bobbin every time. The car pulls up. The plastic arm holding the tread coil feels a bit wavy and not very strong. I hope it holds up over time. to use it.
