This is one of the best hair straighteners for African American hair. I couldn't believe how smooth my hair became after the first use. Oh, and also the first flat iron I know that can be used on wet/damp hair; Of course I dry my hair before use. Finally, before straightening, I used about a quarter size Ssauve frizz/heat protectant in conditioner on damp hair, which worked very well for me, at least.
