So far so good, but other sounds seem to trigger it

Bought this for my friend's dog who comes over the weekends. I live in a townhouse and share a wall with my roommate. This is an old building so you can hear the neighbors movements through the common wall, especially near the front door which is next to my front door. My friend's dog barks and cries when he hears someone at the door (he's not aggressive but thinks everyone outside is a guest who should greet him). This becomes problematic because while I don't have guests often, my neighbors often come and go to visit their friends who live nearby. Also, due to the ongoing pandemic, both households have started ordering more grocery packages/deliveries, meaning more delivery people are sending a dog. really work if I don't do the highest settings. It has a little noise that I can hear when it turns off (like a vibrating noise and the light turns red too). I can tell my friend's dog can hear it too as he turns his head towards it when it fires. The problem is that it doesn't always work when he's barking, but it does work with other sounds. I believe it only interrupted its barking twice at this point, but it was caused by other things such as the ventilation in the bathroom (which is next to the front door) and I believe the TV at times. When that happens the dog will hide somewhere and whimper so I end up turning it off while we watch TV as I plan on keeping it from barking at the noise at the door and not punishing it while we watch TV. I think I might have to play around with placement and settings more, but now I wish I could buy a manual remote instead so I can turn it on manually and not rely on the sound detection. That's why I gave it 3 stars because while it really works, I don't like that it stands out so much from other things. I don't think he'll match the sound with his own bark if it's also mimicked by the TV. Maybe it's just not very suitable for indoor use? I would also like to add that I have a cat. I put it off for a while because I read that cats can hear it too and I didn't want to punish my cat for something she didn't do. So far I can't tell if my cat hears it or if it bothers him as he seems indifferent. I will update if that changes.
