I would have kept the pants - that was my original intent. The inside measurement of the inseam of the pants, advertised as being 30", was in reality only 24.5". If you attempted to raise your leg high enough to get up on the tailgate of a pickup, you'd either split the inseam or fall on your butt. The material seemed to be durable, the pockets and zip fly would have been convenient. I strongly doubt that the material has much, if any, "breathing" capability.
