FLEXIBLE/FLEXIBLE but great for printing onto linoleum blocks

I'm used to working with linoleum blocks that have a solid base like wood. They have rubber on both sides that can be etched, one side is thicker than the other, and the middle is black rubber that is flexible. I used the thick white side to cut out the pattern. This material held the ink very well - it was easy to get a thin layer and the print was very consistent, the black areas were completely black. On the same day I used a traditional wooden base with the same ink and reminded myself how easy it is to get a mottled look in dark areas. So if you like that level of texture/motiness, it might be harder to achieve with those flexible rubber pads. Being flexible they really do sit fully on the paper and when you push them down all areas are in full contact. Due to the flexibility, it was a bit more difficult to place them neatly on the paper, but I still got a nice clean print every time. They can be washed off with warm water just as easily as conventional wooden blocks. One final note I would like to make is that they are easier to carve than brick colored rubber on blocks of wood. They are softer material. Overall - I would say it's great value for money, I've been able to get some amazing prints and while they have a softer texture and more flexibility than wood backed blocks it didn't cause any problems and may have had some downsides. Advantages. They come individually wrapped and stay clean, for example when sorted into a class or used individually and the rest kept. Would definitely buy again.
