Keep your vinyl clean

After not having had vinyl for more than 20 years I started a new record collection in 2014 and now have over 200 albums. About 2/3 are new and 1/3 are used. Some of the used ones were looking pretty bad and I figured a good cleaning system would help. I received this cleaning system 5 days ago and since then I have cleaned about 180 albums. Here are my 2 cents: Pros: 1. Relatively easy to install and use2. About 5 minutes to take the album off the shelf, clean and dry it, and put it back on the shelf3. Recordings look much cleaner4. After cleaning with this system, I don't think my collection needs to be cleaned again. Cons: 1. The ad states, that instructions are printed on the lid; mine weren't. Still very easy2. Other reviewers stated that there was a lot of dirt and debris in the tank after cleaning. I saw very little dirt in the solution. I changed my mind every 30 albums. Maybe that was the reason, or maybe my notes weren't as dirty as some.3. The roller at the front edge of the record keeps popping out of the slot (depending on how you spin the record). This is very annoying and can be easily fixed with a simple design change.4. All my used albums are on thin vinyl and new ones are on thicker (180 grams). It seemed to me that after cleaning some 180G albums, when I cleaned the old record, the brushes stopped making good contact. In hindsight, I probably should have cleaned the thin plates first. I only hold records by the edge, but many used records have fingerprints on them. This system does not remove all fingerprints. Perhaps a 30-year-old fingerprint is more difficult.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Damaged
