I love this controller. Works great with my Genesis mini and my original Genesis 1. I updated the firmware for both receivers before getting started. It should be noted that on the Genesis mini you normally press and hold the start button for a few seconds to exit the game you are playing and get into the Genesis mini menu. With this controller, you can just press the select button, which is easier. If you're using Project Lunar with Genesis mini in games where you're using a different core with Retroarch, you'll still need to hold down the fire button like you would with a standard controller. Overall I highly recommend this controller as it allows you to properly play some games like Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat that use more than 3 buttons. Plus it cleans my room as I don't have to pull out the Genesis/mini for my wired controller to reach it. Now it's on a TV stand and the wifi works great. I didn't notice any additional delays or anything like that. I've included a picture of the wireless controller next to my original Sega 6 button controller for reference. It's almost the same size. After this purchase I no longer see myself with a 3 button controller.
