In a nutshell. A vertical placement as shown in the picture with the lock inserted in the 3rd or 4th hole WILL NOT WORK! You can drive down very easily and someone can drive away with your car. BUT! I placed almost horizontally (as shown in my picture) and put the pin in the 2nd hole from the top with a tight fit. And it's RELIABLE! I've tried moving up and down and it moves, but very little and not enough for anyone to walk. The price is worth buying and you can try it yourself. Now the details. the horizontal position made it absolutely tight. This is a very thick and heavy piece of metal. The locking pin is not that hard metal. But once locked it is undoubtedly very durable and has very good anti-theft protection. TIPS: I highly recommend playing around with the lock a few times before attaching it. I understood why some people had trouble with the lock. There appear to be 2 cylinders (perhaps the wrong word in the description) that lock and unlock the locking mechanism. You must fully insert the key to unlock and lock PROPERLY. If you put the key in half or quarter in, you can still turn the locking mechanism normally, but it will only turn the first part of the cylinder, leading you to believe it's the right turn, but it's not! The lock is stuck and you cannot open it! FIX: If you accidentally do this, simply reinsert the key half or quarter as before and turn back to unlock the position and the cylinders should line up. Again, I figured that out by playing around with it until I was comfortable with its functionality. Encourage everyone to do the same. Worth buying for the price.
