PROS: Multi-disc resume storage; the ability to connect HDMI; easy setup and use; doesn't look "tiny" Cons: TV volume buttons on remote are shared; the mechanism makes a groovy sound; Load times are average at best. First note on speaking. This DVD player or any up-converted DVD player is nowhere near BluRay quality. HDTVs, especially inexpensive ones, often display low-resolution content very poorly. Upconversion resamples the picture to a resolution that the TV can naively display. All else being equal, you would expect the same picture quality from a converted picture on a 1080p TV as you would see on a much older 480p TV of the same size with a progressive scan DVD player. That being said, if you have a 1080p TV you will most likely benefit from the upconversion, just understand that you are getting DVD quality, nothing more. About the features of this player. My biggest criticism of this player is that its remote control (which isn't universal but can control Samsung TVs) has generic buttons for adjusting the TV's volume. If you're watching a movie and try to change the volume, remembering to press the TV button first, you'll get rewind or chapter rewind instead. If you have a Samsung TV, the remote control can most likely control that DVD player and it could be better, especially if the TV supports Anynet. Another disappointment was the sound and general sluggishness of the ejection mechanism, which seems to have a hard time opening and closing the tray. There is a slightly longer than expected delay when pressing the eject button or waiting for a disc to load. The DVD tray is very shallow, making it harder to get the disc in the sweet spot, but even my kids didn't have too much of a problem. All in all, none of these complaints are terrible, just not what you would expect from one of the most expensive players out there. On the plus side, my favorite feature is Multi-Disc Recovery (I don't know what Samsung calls it). This allows the player to continue playing the video even after it has been ejected and other DVDs have been played. Even my brand new BluRay player doesn't do that! The logic seems to work fine, I haven't seen a problem yet when the player resumes the credits. I appreciate the fact that Samsung used a standard width for this player, it doesn't feel like a cheap toy like many newer devices. The player has a good set of features. I haven't tried playing media from a USB device, but reading between the lines in the manual, it works great for pictures and music, but has limited support for video files. Although my TV doesn't support the newer HDMI 1.3 audio and picture sync capabilities, I haven't encountered any issues with video and audio distortion. I have no complaints about its ability to play DVDs, but given the maturity of this technology, I wasn't expecting anything less.
