Larger than expected. But it might work for you if you have a lot to carry. We almost always eat in the living room, watch TV, and it's a hassle to bring separate cutlery, napkins, salt, pepper and other condiments. Also, napkins spoil if left on them, and we have cats so we don't want to leave napkins and cutlery on a dirty ottoman. This car solved our problem. However, please note that it is quite large and can hold a lot of stuff. The compartments are spacious and deep. There is enough space for a large stack of napkins, enough cutlery for everyone, salt and pepper, maybe bottles of ketchup and mustard or other condiments and/or anything else you might need for a meal. And because it's high but the holes are tiny, you can take fancy items like chopsticks with you. Definitely useful if you're eating outside or something completely different like storing small items at the bottom of the stairs.
