Longtime Trainer New to Clicker

I have been a dog trainer for over 30 years but have never tried clicker training because every time I tried to figure it out I thought there are so many RULES and horrible debates about which ones RULE that was the best. Had a headache and decided to walk away from it for a few more years. I've always been a reward-based trainer, but once the dog knew what to do and what not to do, I would make corrections such as pulling him back to where he should "grab" (sit). I don't like to correct, it annoys me and confuses the dog. Clicker training - in the introduction - sounded like a great idea until I read on and saw all about the rules. This book breaks all those rules. If this makes sense to you, TRY IT. The only RULES in this version are click before heal. Always click, then heal. And - Press ONCE. After reading the book I felt incredibly confident that I tried introducing the clicker to our 8 year old Clumber Spaniel boy who is not considered the most obedient student whoever you ask LOL. He's an AKC Champion and also a titled hunting spaniel, so he's certainly not a blank slate to train. He stopped looking at my hand with the treat and looked at my hand with the clicker after the 4th iteration of the click: treat. The next day I put the clicker next to him and he immediately turned his full attention to me, staring intently at the hand holding the clicker. Getting a climber's attention without holding a bird or a treat is amazing. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone new to clickers, those who have doubts, and especially those who, like me, have failed at the task. -Interested in other books, forums and personal training from friends. * Get this book. *I would give her 6 stars if Revane would let me. Tomorrow I will start using the clicker for a simple action for an 8 year old boy and also start introducing the clicker to our two younger puppies also Clumbers. Our young single girl. I will sing and dance if it catches your attention! Don't worry, I won't be posting any videos or audios of me singing and dancing, I promise! TracyComedy Clumber Spaniels in the Pacific Northwest!
