Consider the possibility that a close shave isn't worth the negatives. Maybe a quick, safe, and comfortable shave is better. I personally think there are better alternatives to safety razors. Consider the following alternatives: 1. The $10 Prime $36 Bic Sensitive Single-Blade Disposable Razor is fast, cheap, tends not to clog, and is nearly impossible to cut or burn. Philips Norelco OneBlade hybrid electric trimmer and shaver for $35. Prime - Works surprisingly well, relatively fast for power, and never burns out. It cuts higher than any of the others mentioned and can be used along the grain if you want more speed and less proximity - works better with soap.
