Review on Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein Grain Free, Natural Adult Indoor Hairball & Weight Control Dry Cat Food with Chicken - The Ultimate Solution for Indoor Cats by Kwame Bandepalli

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good food (even in the worst case*)

Grain-free, no by-products ("pink goo"), full of nutrients and protein; everything active kittens need. Also, my cats love this product, which is good because I've tried two other premium grain-free foods before and they hated them. Years ago, Purina filed a lawsuit against Blue Buffalo because one of their suppliers used animal by-products in their ingredients (the same by-products Purina openly uses in their products). Blue Buffalo agreed (which they didn't know), but the lawsuit was largely a smear campaign by Purina. The biggest impact on the product line was BB's Life Protection product line, which contained up to 24% by-products. In the Wilderness line (which is the focus of this review) only Life Source cuts (a relatively small portion of the feed) have been shown to contain chicken by-products, around 8%. In all other lines only the Life Source Beats were affected and contained only about 2% by-products. These numbers aren't high enough to bother me (with the exception of the Life Protection line) since most consumer pet foods safely use animal by-products and because the percentages are so low. Although safe does not equal healthy. And I'm still upset that I didn't get what the Blue Buffalo Guarantee promised? Of course. However, BB's supplier, Wilber-Ellis, has since stated that the company has updated its procedures and standards at its offending facility "to ensure compliance with the company's (Blue Buffalo) stringent quality requirements and provided additional top-level oversight has these requirements to ensure this. requirements are met." We as consumers have to hope that's true, but as pet food is a very poorly regulated industry, all we can do is rest assured and hope that's true, even if it's not the first time that Wilbur -Ellis has been heavily criticized (and they are the main supplier to many pet food companies) In the meantime I will continue to feed my children the food they love knowing that even in the 'worst' state it is still an unhealthy one the healthiest store-bought foods I can give them.
