Review on North Face Chilkat Cosmic Boys' Shoes: Perfect Footwear for Active Youth by Ken Coste

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Broad and durable.

If you have a child with wide feet, look no further. Unfortunately, one of my sons inherited his mother's very thick fins. I have apologized to him many times over the years and have made it my mission to make sure he has quality shoes that fit him. Having had these in the past (kids size 7) I knew they would be roomy enough for me. his. We went up one size, but that's just for the EXTRA width and isn't a downside to these boots. BENEFITS: * Roomy toe box * Good for wide feet and XXW as you get taller. * Still works well for a medium sized foot (I know that, because my husband had a medium-sized pair) * Warm! They keep his Alaskan toes warm all winter. * Durable. They are worn DAILY in Alaska for about 6 months of the year. This was our second year buying this style and they have held up. CONS: * Clumsy. This is a very big shoe. For us this is not a minus. We do not care; This is not a problem. But for some it may be so. * Lacing system. Yes, my child can tie shoelaces. but in winter boots that get put on and taken off a lot (like in cold climates) it's a pain. Also, the laces are always untied (although this can be remedied by purchasing other laces). As a solution, I ordered elastic shoelaces without ribbons. But my son has not complained about it. FINAL VERDICT: If your child has wide feet, BUY THESE. You simply won't find a wider winter boot (we tried wide-width Kamiki and they were a flop). BUT,

Pros
  • Boys
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
