Review on BlknWhite Certified Compostable Cling Cutter by Peter Whitney

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for tattoos, suitable for soaps

We do a lot of crap in tattoos. So it would be nice to change that and do something more sustainable. I tried another compost wrap that I liked but the static cling to it was annoying and the box/cutter just didn't secure the roll. I was /totally/surprised at the difference in quality when I received this. The box is heavy, the lid is magnetic, the instructions on the box are clear. The knife is nice and sharp. The packaging is the best of the compostable options. It is not as flexible as normal plastic wrap. It's not about the manufacturers - stretchy polymers just don't work the way PLA (corn sugar plastic) does, but it's stretchy enough for my purposes. Pre-cutting parts for gear has always been the bane of my existence. Usually, plastic wrap is either so sticky that it curls up into balls that it'll never go back to normal, OR (with compost wrap) it's not sticky enough that it snags/unravels easily, defeating the purpose of cling wrap. This is a Goldilocks wrapper. It sticks enough but it untangles decently, you have to rewind. By the way, I also make soap. I usually wrap mine in another brand of compost parchment paper because plastic wrap doesn't work for me. For testing purposes, I decided to test BlknWhite and BonnieBio. BB wouldn't cling to himself. BnW will cling to itself, so BnW wins in this area. You can stick a label on it and boom, the soap is packaged. However, none of these work well for heat sealing. Even slight heat would cause holes to form in the case, mostly in gap designs and also on the flat sides of the soap. I think if you were a perfectly square shape and SUPER gentle they could give you an OK seal. But it's easy to screw up, so I honestly wouldn't call it a winner if that's all you want to buy it for. Anyway I will keep buying it and hope they don't stop selling it. Thank you for making a great product!

Pros
  • KLING & CUTTER: Our compostable cling film sticks to a variety of surfaces, from glass to metal, keeping food fresh and preventing odors from getting in. It is a strong, transparent film with excellent adhesion. The cutter means film is dispensed quickly, quickly and easily, with less waste.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
