Review on Imperative Décor Floating Shelves Rustic by Gustavo Mathew

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Rustic doesn't have to mean poor quality

I really want to like these shelves, but in my case there are many quality problems that I have to ignore. The first thing I noticed was that the stain or sealer was still wet. No big deal. I just opened the package and let it dry a bit. Second, after unpacking, I noticed a large crack on one of the shelves. Maybe it was done on purpose to give it a more rustic character? Third, the instructions state that the mounting hardware must be attached to the wall at a distance of 16 inches. Unfortunately, the mounting holes in the shelves were drilled 15 7/8 inches apart. If I hadn't double checked and just followed the instructions the install would fail. Fourth, both regiments are quite warped. Both have a large cup size and a slight twist. Maybe it's meant to add to the rustic charm, but it just looks cheap. Fifth, about half of the cavity wall anchors splintered during assembly. This seems to be a general problem. However, they have the same thread direction as the mounting screws, so you can simply tighten the screws to get the plugs flush with the wall. Not perfect but fixable, I don't want to return these as they are already installed. Instead, I just skip the errors. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.
