Low Cost Wavemaker Pump

This small hygger wave pump is very cost effective. Don't let anyone tell you that it costs $300 to make a good shaft pump. The Hygger pump has few features. As you would expect at this price. But a wave pump is a wave pump. These are the propellers that move the water in the aquarium. The level of quality and equipment varies greatly depending on the price category. But they all work the same way. This Hygger device pumps water like any other pump of the same size. What you get in a more expensive device is better build quality and more features. There is no WiFi here. It has no application management. All controls are located on the supplied console. I use this pump to add motion to a 20 gallon pump. I have it on the lowest level. Three filter shrimp live in this aquarium. They capture moving particles from the water and eat it. The particles must be tiny. The flakes and crushed flakes are too large. I needed enough water movement to keep the food powder circulating. This Hygger pump does just that at its lowest setting. Too bad Hygger doesn't make smaller pumps. Adjusting the power levels, waveforms and frequencies takes some getting used to. There are four digits on the display panel. The first digit is the time of day code. The day is divided into intervals. You cannot change the intervals. You can program the power level for each time interval. Stage 1 has a maximum power output of 40%. In my opinion it should be 20% to accommodate smaller tanks. It increases as the number increases, up to 100%. The third is Wave mode. The last digit is the frequency of the waves. The smaller this number, the faster the wave will pulsate. The higher the value, the smoother the water movement. You may need a strainer if you have small fish in the tank. The pump is powerful enough to catch small fish. The easiest way is to use these garlic nets. Go to the grocery aisle of your grocery store and look for garlic. They come in a sock-like mesh tube. Rinse the tube and immerse it in water. You want to remove all traces of garlic. Then cut a 2" piece and stick it on the pump head. And here you have a great mesh to keep smaller fish from being sucked into the pump. This is a great shaft pump. like Vortech MP10 but again, it is not $300 Save yourself Vortechs and Maxspect Gyres for your reef tank These expensive pumps are not needed in a freshwater aquarium Highly recommended for a smaller fish-only aquarium or an invertebrate aquarium Spend more money on a reef tank
