I don't know what animal it is but this Moroccan leather is very good quality. When it arrived the color was much lighter than what we see in the picture so I rubbed "vasselin" all over the leather (I do this with all my leather goods) after which the color was like the picture. I bought this BC, I don't need the weight of too many metal parts. Metal hardware: a zip puller for a large front pocket, another puller for a small inner pocket, and back buckles for shoulder straps. Surprisingly, it's lighter than I expected. Simple design, easy to carry and handy size for carrying letter binders.
