JBL! Path! This speaker is my ideal combination of size, sound and great value. Why do you ask? (me too). Mmm, I guess I like my "thick and bright" music. That said, a very light punch in the lows (so I can feel the energy) and clean, bright highs (so I hear "ching" and not "cha"). This speaker features a JBL soft dome horn, which many other reviewers like. It is also present in higher priced JBL studio monitors. Even JBL seems to hype this tweeter concept. Sounds good just judging by the looks, materials and reviews. When I first heard this, I can totally understand the rave reviews. I understand! I have understood! It has a bright, spacious high frequency tone that I seek and enjoy. I then hoped that the midrange speakers would somehow match the tone of the tweeter horn from 80Hz and above - great. I also chose this speaker because of the reputation of the Control line. To me, Control is a proposition for consumers. The case is made from ultra-dense JBL poly rubber with gold bindings. Wooden cabinets seem comparatively absurd - save me the wood! I crank it up loud with a custom vintage class AB 100 watt/channel amp from the '80s. -- That in itself is great and I'm not afraid of damaging the amp or speakers - turn the power on! But I like EDM/Lounge to spice up my mood without anger so I add a 500w subwoofer to fill at 80Hz and below (with built in crossover) - 2.1 setting. Sweet. The 2.1 configuration is perfect in my opinion, and these speakers are also perfect for mounting high at ear level for an impressive soundstage (tall and wide) - floorstanding speakers aren't that easy to make. My goal in writing this review is so that I can look back on it in a few years and see if this "daily record" (aka "review") will stand up to the test of my own preferences over time. I am very impressed JBL.
