Review on Cyalume SnapLight: Illuminating Green Glow Sticks for Instant Light by Alvaro Delic

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not the best product of its kind in my test. See pictures.

I bought 20 of these sticks because I thought American Cyalume branded sticks would be better than lesser known Chinese brands. The expiration date on the packaging is July 24th. In the same order I also bought a pack of 12 Glow Mind Safety Light Sticks (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GTU597I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for comparison. They expire on July 23rd. I took photos of each package at the same time and checked them at 4, 8, 12 and 16 hours. At each stage, the Glow Mind Sticks were brighter. At 16 hours, four hours beyond the rating of all products, when viewed alongside the Cyalume wand, the Glow Mind wand was about 1.5 times brighter than the Cyalume wand, although both were quite dim. I did the demonstration in a dark closet. The Glow Mind product is priced at $1.08 for a 12-pack at the time of purchase. The Cyalume product is $0.99 each at the time of purchase, but I had to buy a 20-pack to get that price. One of my kids thought there was more liquid in the Cyalume product overall, but I pointed out that Cyalume sticks have liquid going up from the base of the stick, while Mind Glow sticks have a short unfilled base. If you look at the bottom, the liquid filling is almost identical for both products, as far as can be seen without an opening for liquid measurement. Cyalume is hexagonal while Glow Mind is round. Both have an eyelet at the top and a hook for hanging. The Cyalume product is Made in the USA while the Glow Mind product is Made in China. Unfortunately, the Chinese product outperforms the US product in initial brightness and residual brightness over the 16-hour test period. Cyalumes have an extra year of expiration compared to Glow Mind, but I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference: I bought these two products to replace a US-made Ameriglo product that I bought recently during used up during a power outage at night and those that provided usable light during the 8 hours of power outage despite having expired in February 2015, nearly five years ago. Mind glow for me, keep going.
