The worst thing about owning a BMW motorcycle is the limited availability of spare parts. But they mostly come from Europe and have the typical BMW "soak tax” on them. The sophisticated electronics of the CANBUS system and the small number of BMW motorcycles on the road compared to the major three-wheeler manufacturers leave BMW riders in the rain when it comes to available upgrades. I use my 16 Series BMW K1300 for commuting and my new job leaves me with little storage space. I left my helmet at the safety desk but wasn't thrilled with that aspect. I needed a top case for my weather jacket/helmet/pants and my only alternatives were a $250 mount ($80 more) and a $325 Givi with an additional $52 for the mounting plate. Givi wanted $67 for the passenger seat, this one comes with a built in. I bit into the tail mount rather than the flimsy plastic from other vendors, but found real savings and value with the $115 AUTOINBOX 47L case. The case has an attractive shape, excellent workmanship and solid construction. It is fully waterproof and includes a mounting plate that mounts to my Sw-Motech upper rack with minor modifications. The lock is secure and the case is equipped with LED lighting with routed wiring. The beauty of the lighting is that the CANBUS system on my bike adds power to the 2-wire taillight system to make the LEDs brighter, providing run/brake light functionality for the AUTOINBOX lighting. My HJC RPHA 11 Pro helmet fits perfectly on the left side and the folded jacket and pants on the right. The latch has the advantage that the key cannot be removed without locking the case again, which is a good security reminder. I now have plenty of storage space on my sports touring bike and can comfortably carry my laptop backpack to and from work without a 12-kilo bag on my back.
