Heavy duty metal - not cheap plastic! So this is a hot/cold shoe mount that gives you a standard screw mount that can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. That means you can mount a light, microphone, GoPro or other cool accessory (mini flag?) on your DSLR. The point of this nifty device is to give you options when out in the field with borrowed or unknown gear that doesn't have a show mount. It's like a crescent shaped (adjustable) wrench. You never think you'll need it until you do, and it's a lifesaver. I've just made a film that has won over a dozen awards, including several physical awards, and I'm currently running for Cannes; So I know a bit about the necessary camera equipment and what tools you should have on hand. This is a brilliant idea and very well done. I really like the red adjustment knob as everything on the camera appears black. black, black and more black. The silver quick release dial on the display mount is also a nice touch and is grooved for maximum torque when you need it. In addition, a hex key is provided to adjust the friction of the vertical movement (forward tilt). Someone really seriously thought about developing it and it would be a sin not to turn up in your camera bag on set without it. I've tried various shoe mounts that were weaker and didn't adjust for tension, but I was disappointed with how quickly they wore out. It may or may not last a lifetime, but it's definitely a device that will last for many years to come. I'm surprised I haven't found anything like this before. If you take photos or make videos, you definitely need one of these videos. Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, any professional photo or even a high quality selfie. You want this if you have a DSLR. You know. . . I just discovered that you can use this in combination with a standard phone mount to turn your phone into a mini monitor. It is these tools that open up possibilities.
