Colorado mountains - durable & comfortable

I purchased these after researching a rugged but low-cost alternative to brands like crispi and Irish setter. I wear a 9 1/2, weigh 185 and am in excellent physical condition, but my feet have always been a challenge. I have wide feet. When running marathons or OCRs they require inserts and extra care to stay blister-free. As a novice elk hunter, I damaged my feet so badly the first year, I couldn't walk for days. I didn't anticipate the steep terrain and constant rubbing my Irish setters would cause. This left 80% of each foot severely bruised and blistered. Needless to say, lesson learned. Prior to this year's hunt I broke in the new Thoroughgood boots on a few laps of an 8 mile trail run with a pack. Initially, I used Dr Scholl's inserts expecting they would be necessary, but by the end of the runs my feet were feeling really sore. I thought I wasted my money. By accident, I left the Dr. Scholl's inserts at home one day and used the inserts that came with the boots. The difference was immediate. I ran through the entire trail in complete comfort. Dummy moment. Ok great. But that's trail runs, a 25-40° grade on the side of a mountain covered in rocks and deadfall for 14+ miles a day is another story. How would my feet and the boots hold up? Sure enough however, with some closer management of the dryness of my feet I ended the trip with no damage to my feet at all. Dispite all the snags and scrapes on sharp rocks, branches and thorns, the boots held up great. They are also completely waterproof and the quick-tie lace-up design makes for fast removal/put on. It was weird being able to walk normally compared to the previous years hunting trip but a good pair of boots makes all the difference. I would highly recommend these for their quality and comfort.

Pros
  • Love the new boots!
Cons
  • Might not be ideal for rugged terrain as the outsole can wear down quickly
