As this is an aftermarket kit I expected it to be at least the same diameter as the patch ring on a red hot eyeball but it's about 3/4 inch smaller than the eyeball of the standard Halo 74P. That's fine for a new or near-new building, but it's far from ideal for a 30-year-old popcorn ceiling with dirt stains under the original decorative air leak ring. .Anyway, all other mod brands (including the Halo kit, which is almost double the price) have the same problem of being smaller than a glowing eyeball. I never thought to check it because I assumed it was somewhat standard (my mistake). If you have the same problem and can't or don't want to paint the ceiling, look for what's called a "6" suction ring. It's sandwiched between the LED retrofit and the ceiling to hide a large hole or dirt stain , they cost $10 for a pack of 5.
