Pros

I had a canon 40d, I compare with it. In terms of noise, the leader is 100% - 5100, in terms of color rendering - everything is relative, 40d turns yellow, 5100 is blue, you need to take this into account when making settings, in the shop it is corrected at once. In terms of detail, the leader is again 5100. Nikon also has a very nice screen. Pixel-by-pixel preview of the captured photo. The video is pretty cool. Screen rotation is extremely useful. It focuses much more accurately and faster, the percentage of photos in focus is much higher than that of 40d - I consider this a very important factor. Focuses via LiveView. Photos open much faster in the computer and download faster. Noise suppressors and all sorts of D-Lighting rule with might and main. Whale 18-55 VR - beyond praise - sharp, with small distortions, quite pleasant and fast, light, durable and does not play anywhere, does not leave.

Cons

Very weak battery. I have enough for a couple of days of active use. 40d in this sense, I took a vacation for two weeks - I never charged it, I shot a lot every day. It is also harder to control, 40d is more comfortable to hold for my big hand, and all pressing is somehow more pleasant and solid. Still, 5100 is not reinforced concrete, like 40d, somewhere there is a bit of backlash. When pulled out of the wardrobe trunk, the card compartment always opens. No exposure bar in LiveView. The video has not yet been able to adjust so that it does not turn out so wildly noisy in the twilight - the device automatically uses extremely high ISO. The viewfinder appeared darker and smaller. Often there are errors when scrolling through photos, sometimes they don't "spin". There is no battery pack for this machine. I found a broken pixel in the center of the matrix - it does not interfere, but the fact is unpleasant, check when buying. I will add after a month. And yet, the ineptitude is frustrating. I liked the width of the tokina 11-16 the most, and autofocus does not work on the 5100.
