I bought this camera to photograph license plates for a loss prevention company. We do a lot of burglaries and realized that the most important piece of evidence that could help was a clear picture of a car and license plate, which didn't exist in our existing system. Of course, these are dedicated cameras for hundreds if not thousands of dollars, and even another option similar to this one from Recannyx called HyperFire that costs around $600. But since I was paying for it out of my own pocket, I needed something more economical. I have found that the VOSKER V-150 can fill this need. Now, after speaking to VOSKER representatives and knowing that this camera wasn't really designed for my purposes, I bought it anyway to test it. First, let me say that this camera does what it was designed to do, which is to take motion-induced photos. I was really impressed with the quality and how it works. In the layman's terms, this camera is ideal for protecting country houses, pathways, driveways in remote areas, etc. However, for my purposes we are dealing with heavy vehicle traffic. In fact, I took 1000 photos (with burst capability) in just one day and one night. So let me talk about the pros first and then the cons. This camera takes very good photos during the day and where I placed it at the exit of our store I was able to read the signs fairly clearly and identify the car model with ease. It detects movement well and can even recognize the type of movement like a vehicle or person for easy identification. At night, the IR illumination works very well and allows you to determine the brand of the car. Now for the cons. Again, this is just because of my unique intended use and not necessarily a bad thing about this camera. One issue I found was shutter speed. When two cars stood back to back and tried to leave the area, it didn't work for each individual car, only the first car, and often the second car was cut off or not detected at all. This happened even when the vehicle was perhaps 20 feet from the second vehicle. My guess is that the camera is actively transferring photos and cannot take any more photos until it completes this process. This resulted in some vehicles not being impounded, particularly during rush hours when multiple vehicles attempted to exit. It took a while to adjust the setting for better response so I could get the car in the frame and then the second photo had the back of the car with the number plate on it, however this sometimes resulted in it being too far away, to be read at all it . This may be because the car was moving too fast or too slow, resulting in burst photos showing only part of the front of the car. However, it still worked fine, but for my purpose I needed a sequential capture of each machine. What makes license plate readers so unique is their ability to read license plates at night. This camera is basically useless to film wafers at night due to many factors, mainly IR reflections from the wafers making them unreadable. It also struggles to film vehicles in motion, resulting in a blur effect. However, this could be because it was raining when I tested it at night, but I don't think that's the case. I wish there was a setting to adjust the IR light or even a filter to make reading the license plates easier at night. Finally, only 40 HD photos were allowed. If I didn't pay the extra $5 a month I could only get 40 HD photos. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I just needed a good photo of the car I suspected was stolen, but the overall quality of the pictures made it impossible for me to read the license plates unless it was one HD photo selected. The camera stores them locally on the SD card, but it would be difficult to pull out the ladder every time I needed a good photo, especially when time is of the essence in a theft investigation and the cop is breathing down my neck. Videos or vehicle descriptions. Overall, this camera is very good for the price. It works great, but I don't recommend it for grabbing license plates like in my situation. I would recommend buying a safe to protect your investment. You can also find a cheaper version of the cellular antenna they sell for $99 which I found here at Revain for $15 for those of you who need better reception.
