You Get What You Pay For

When I bought this tool I planned to use it to pull the 16 gauge annealed iron wire I had up to 18 gauge and given the low cost of the tool. Drawplate I figured I had nothing to lose by trying. Completely useless for my purposes. As soon as I took the tool out of the box I was struck by how flimsy it is compared to other traction pads I've used, but figured I'd give it a try anyway. I, as usual, filed the tip at the end of the wire, carefully annealed it, and began threading it through the hole one step less than the wire's original size. Rather than squeezing and thinning the wire like any pull plate should, the back of the plate simply detached outward when I pulled on the wire, enlarging the pull plate opening and leaving the wire completely untouched. After trying a few more holes with the same result, I gave up. The drawbar was practically destroyed. Maybe this plate is suitable for non-ferrous metal, but I can't say for sure without trying it. However, when it comes to iron drawing, it falls short and you'd better save money for a more reliable tool.
