I live in a cold region so I usually wear a pair in the dead of winter when I go out at night (I'm a runner) but they do a great job of keeping the toasty ones protect toes. I wouldn't recommend using them if you're building a snowman or throwing snowballs. They are not waterproof. But I have them in my car, at home, in my work backpack. I don't care if mine fit, so I just put them on and go.
