Review on Gouache Carrying Students Watercolor Painting Painting, Drawing & Art Supplies by Wendy Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good starting point for paints

I'd give it a full five stars just for the sheer amount of gouache and paint choices you'll find here and the cute packaging and palette that comes with it. I know the smaller Himi sets come with the same color palette as on the box, but this larger one comes with a white palette, which is preferable as you need white to mix the colors to give you a good visual Get an idea of what the colors you are working with are, and the surface doesn't change that perception at all. So I love this addition. However, these colors are very streaky if you try to paint over a larger area. I wish they lay down more evenly. Not as pigmented or opaque as higher quality gouache no, but it's decent for a gouache beginner to have plenty of paint to practice before moving on to more expensive pieces. It's just annoying how striped it is. Even if you create a layer, the previous layer activates too easily and then reappears when you try to hide it. You also need to add more water to them, which makes them too watery for some people's liking, like you're doing a direct dip and your paint is too dry to move anywhere. In my opinion it ends up being more vibrant/pigmented watercolor than real gouache, but for the price it's still not bad given the average quality you have to work with. I would give 5 stars for the quality and the gouache quality is over 3.5 stars.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Too silly
