Good But: Cat Trees and Condos

Simple, cute, very easy to put together and my cats love it. However (and this is a problem I've found with most scratching posts, not just this one). My cats, healthy cats weighing 11-12 pounds each, look like giants in or near this scratching post. They've knocked it over a few times and they weren't even a rough dwelling. One was trying to climb onto the top round step to sit down and immediately became too heavy and fell. .This tree is more suitable for kittens and miniature cats (7-9 pounds). I've since fixed the issue by placing the tree against a wall (the round row touches the wall) so it balances. So far no more problems. But bottom line: These scratching posts need WEIGHT base to hold up against small, rough housing, or god forbid a cat will just climb to the top without falling and scaring the animal half to death. .I'm not joking. I literally had to put two 5lb dumbbells at the base of one of my trees to keep it from falling. .Suspended. bases. .It's not a problem folks. In addition, this product is a really cute little scratching post and like I said above it would be great for feral kittens and miniature cats. But if you have large-framed cats (like the Maine Coon breed), you might want to choose a different tree.
