Lone Peak 5 is the best version of the Lone Peak line. I originally took the Lone Peak train because I love hiking but after realizing how comfortable they are I started wearing them as work shoes as well and it was a game changer! These are the only shoes that allow me to be on my feet all day without getting numb to my toes. In fact, my legs still feel great after an 8 hour shift at work. Walking with them is a pleasure. I almost forget I'm wearing shoes. The toe box works exactly as it should and allows my toes to naturally move apart with every step. Lone Peak 5 has some improvements over 4.5 and other previous versions. The 4.5 introduced an angular shape at the back of the shoe that was not part of the original 4.5 shape. It was rubbing like crazy at the back of my ankle/achilles tendon. I'm happy to report that 5 has returned to its usable form so this is no longer an issue. In addition, the new EGO midsole delivers noticeably more cushioning and cushioning with every step compared to previous versions. The overall construction also seems a bit more solid. If you're new to Lone Peaks, the main things I love about these shoes are 1) the wide toe box for superior comfort, 2) the ultra-light weight that makes this possible, 3) the MaxTrac soles for incredible traction on the Trails and 4) the removable insoles that can be swapped out with custom insoles for even more fun (I swear he and Dr. Scholl are work insoles when I'm at work). As a diabetic, I am very grateful to Altra for putting on a show like this. My feet have never felt better and I sleep well at night knowing it helps prevent foot injuries with every step. Finally, I usually wear size 8 sneakers. The reviews I originally read said they should be half a size bigger and I have to agree, especially if you wear thick socks. I use 8.5 and they fit perfectly.
