Purple is a plus for the 3rd gen Prius

After reading a number of reviews of hundreds of available LED lights I settled on these based on price and design. I like the idea of separating the driver from the bulb itself. It just makes sense to me to isolate as many electronic components as possible from the main heat source. I also find that the active cooling provided by the fan at the base of the bulb allows the heat generated by the LED matrix to be dissipated more efficiently than a passive heatsink placed in a possibly already hot engine compartment. The fan on the bulbs is nearly silent and not a problem, and there's more than enough room behind each socket to fit the large back of a bulb. On the connector from the driver, which goes into the wiring harness in the car, you can see "+" and "-". The purple wire in the car socket is positive and the white wire is negative. After swapping them out on the first bulb installed and it didn't light up, I saved time by just making sure the polarity was correct for all subsequent bulbs the first time. The light output is really white and bright. The whiter color offers a much sharper contrast on the road as well as higher light output. The headlights themselves fit easily into the high beam reflector socket on each side (two internal positions). Twist the back of the bulb counterclockwise to remove and clockwise to insert. Once installed, the wire into the bulb should face down to ensure the LEDs themselves are in the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. The beam pattern was almost identical to the halogens I got and no re-aiming was required.
