Review on Tecsun PL398MP DSP Digital AM/FM/LW Shortwave Radio: Dual Speakers & MP3 Player, Black - The Ultimate Audio Solution by Amit Amit ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Cool product, happy with the purchase, maybe I'll buy it again.

In the beginning, there were only two of them (I bought one for my wife, the other for my mother). One of them would hang up once a month, or even more frequently, and would no longer respond to any buttons that were pressed. The only way to bring it back to life is to unplug the power supplies, wait for the LCD display to become free of any inscriptions (this should take approximately an hour; on the inside, you should be able to see a capacitive capacitor), and then plug the power supplies back in. After a total of three years of treatment, he passed away. Once the first one passed away, the second one of the same kind gradually stopped hanging up after it had hung up less frequently (approximately once a year) than the first one had done. It is already the eighth year that he has been employed. As a result, I'm going to increase my rating from 3 to 4. Recently, I purchased the same third one since, after trying several others, I was unable to find any cheaper one on the present market that provided the same level of confidence in reception of all of the radio stations that I require.

Pros
  • 1. There is also the VHF. 2. Digital tuning, the ability to save settings, and a wheel that makes it simple to navigate between channels. 3. An assured reception, even when traveling outside of the city Cheaper receivers can only pick up strong radio stations (for instance, those that are less than 4,000 rubles, the Ekho Moskvy and Grad Petrov radios reproduce with strong noise even within the boundaries of St. Petersburg, but this one is clean!), so if you want to listen to the radio, spend your money on a more expensive model. 4. A sound quality that is acceptable. 5. Having a low weight and being compact.
Cons
  • 1. Will occasionally become frozen. 2. If there are too many functions, too many complex and non-obvious control options, and an abundance of buttons on both sides, there is a chance that the wrong one will be pressed by accident. It is possible, for instance, to inadvertently set off the sleep timer; but, in order to deactivate it, you will need to read the instructions first; the appropriate order of steps is not immediately apparent. 3. The lifespan of one of the three copies that were purchased was relatively short. 4. Quite expensive (but the reception quality is worth it).
