First of all, I bought this product with my own money on my very limited home office budget. I have a library of old advertising brochures and technical papers that I often need to copy. Many of them are ledger size (11x17) and are a real bear (slow) to scan with my outdated EPSON WF-7620 MFC large format. And for less than $300, a better, or at least faster, way to scan 11x17 documents would be more important than any other office machine, at least to me. but this machine had a few flaws that I couldn't deal with so it went back to Revain (thanks AZ and CZUR and I really tried to get it working). These shortcomings prevented it from replacing my super-slow, unrelenting LED scanner. So I wanted to leave a serious, genuine review, hopefully to answer some quick questions about things that aren't clearly mentioned on the CZUR website. First, no available camera, not even a full-frame SLR, can match the DPI of a flatbed scanner. . So when I started, I knew I could expect a maximum of 240 dpi, which is good enough for most documents but won't surprise anyone. You can do the same thing with a phone or a DSLR and a wide-angle lens, but the workflow is much slower, so at this price point this product is **very** worth a closer look. **when** you need to scan a lot of thick books. The software is clunky, but it works better than most solutions I've seen, even from big companies like Canon and Xerox. In short, if you're scanning 4-page documents or photos, you're using a scanner. Don't scan books often, but I gave this feature a try - it works well but there is some distortion at the edges, similar to what you see when using your iPhone with an Apple Document Scanner. Additionally, overall quality was only marginally better than the iPhone 8s plus - both devices employ sophisticated processing and tricks to clean up documents, add sharpness and contrast, and in some cases create line art, simple color drawings, and other simple custom images. -screened documents look almost better than the original! She also appears to be resistant to the spooky mori patterns most commonly seen on printed documents. The quality, fit, finish and packaging of this visualizer is near PERFECT. The design is practical, with one major flaw that didn't impress me until I bought it: this scanner (perhaps not a new model?) rests on an A3 (large) faux leather mat. This rug was rolled tight and didn't fit me, at least in my cold office. It hasn't stabilized in the few days I've had, although I've gained some weight to keep it going. It was a real pain because the curl also prevented the documents from laying flat. Slight quality degradation (documents should be laid as flat as possible to avoid distortion and focus issues). If this matte wasn't needed, no big deal, but from what I've read the matte serves as a calibration marker and is necessary or at least very useful for correction software. the end. One astute reviewer warned that Aura Scan is "calling to China" - I took that comment on board, thinking it would be worth living if it were otherwise good (that is, it just wouldn't scan secure documents). I wasn't expecting or considering how SLOW the software would load. On a modestly equipped Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM and an SSD - the software downloaded and connected to the mysterious Chinese cloud in a minute or two (annoyingly) each time, and the Aura Scan software took up a few GB of local storage space . So you might think it should be autonomous. Finally, the iPhone can do similar processing without the need of the cloud. I don't have fast DSL and CZUR's call-home ritual caused major reliability issues every time my Macbook went to sleep between uses with DSL/WLAN. Without standalone, non-bloated software - it can in no way replace the ease of use of even an old WiFi MFC scanner (which is also higher quality). .As I said above, I didn't want to return this document scanner. The idea is correct. The hardware is cool - and if it were more convenient to "run and copy a multi-page PDF" without lots of spinning beach balls (an hourglass for Windows guys) then I'd probably miss the obvious quality advantage over hard-working tablet. If you have great internet, lots of big books to scan and need a cool desk lamp, take a look at this thing! I could see this being useful for some users with big jobs. but it was a pain to navigate.
