One doorbell, one on the water bowl. Our dogs drink a lot and pee a lot. We have a very young Doberman (almost fully potty trained) and a very old Boxer mix (emergencies and incontinence issues). Both need to be replenished often, at least a few times a day. You can teach old dogs new tricks because an old Boxer uses it more than a young Doberman, but both know exactly what happens when they ring the bell (at the door and at the water bowl) and if you have a dog that catches easily, they will find out too. My only issue with them is their length and ability to stay on the doorknob. A bell was crushed by several perfect hits against the closing door. We also knocked him off the handle a couple of times. We have a steel door so a strong magnet will help hold it in place and prevent it from swaying. Plus it's a life saver. Or at least a carpet saver.
