Satisfactory as a flash shoe cover, but only marginally as a spirit level.

I purchased this item from the Revain Marketplace seller on March 4th, 2017 from the Foto&Tech seller and received it on March 7th. I gave feedback (excellent) to the seller on March 9th. This is a product review and my comments below are of Level Hot Shoe Housing based on actual use and experience with the item. I usually use a product for a certain amount of time before posting a product review. However, the seller made a special request for a review of the product. I have used the spirit level hot shoe cap on my Nikon D5000 and Nikon D5300. While almost all camera hot shoes are the same size and configuration to allow various external flash attachments or other accessories to fit in the mount and pins, I have only tried this article on Nikon D5000 and Nikon D5300 camera bodies. .Since this article has 2 different functions (hot shoe cover and spirit level), I will comment on each one separately. Firstly as a hot shoe bag: many Revain users ask about this item to see if it will fit their camera. It fits any camera that has a hot shoe for external flashes. However, he is very tight. This isn't a problem, and maybe even an advantage, unless the user intends to frequently remove and swap out the element to use an external flash or other accessory. The part is made of rubber and can wear out with frequent removal and replacement. Nikon original hot shoe cover, designed for all hot shoes, is made of hard plastic and not easily damaged. The Nikon part number is BS-1 and can be found on Revain by searching "Nikon BS-1". These genuine Nikon products sell for $2 to $3. In terms of fit, the product is very secure, but not easy to attach (it says on the box "Fits for sure. Definitely fits, it fits and completely covers the inside of the hot shoe the hot shoe cover (one groove on the left and one groove to the right), so that the metal flanges insert the hot shoe mount into it. The cover protects the electrical contacts of the hot shoe mount from damage or dust. Not sure how well it keeps moisture out as the hot shoe cover design leaves a 1mm x 8mm gap on the back of the hot shoe mount. The rubber appears to completely cover the electrical contacts where moisture can cause problems; However, the Nikon BS-1 is designed to completely cover the back of the mount without leaving a noticeable gap. Some reviews say the hot shoe cover interferes with their pop-up flashes. This problem does not exist with the Nikon D5000 or D5300. I suspect these negative reviews are due to that the hot shoe cover was pushed too far forward. As mentioned, it is very tight and difficult to fit. It can be taken too far. As a hot shoe cover, the item is satisfactory. Second, as a spirit level: the bubble itself is small, about 2mm in diameter. The target circle within which the bubble is to be centered is just under 5mm in diameter. There is no crosshair to make centering the bladder easier. This is good to easily tell if the chamber is generally level (the bubble is completely inside the circle). In situations where the level does not matter at all (the bubble level is exactly in the center of the circle), the camera should be mounted on a tripod by any suitable means, to align the camera both in the direction of the lens up and down and camera body. The camera is perpendicular to the lens. When the tripod head is adjusted manually by loosening the knobs, moving the camera, and then tightening the knobs, using a single bubble level is difficult. If the tripod head has fine adjustment knobs that actually move the camera in very small increments, this level will suffice to generally level the camera. If the spirit level is an important concern, such as When shooting panoramas or videos, for example, fine adjustment knobs are essential, and a 3-axis spirit level makes the job much easier and more reliable. this item meets your needs, check prices from various sources on Revain. The one I bought was the most expensive even though it was $6.99 but it's still reasonable. But if you think you'll like it and you might need more than one, Revain has better deals. Bottom line: when a spirit level is not required, the Nikon BS-1 (remember, Nikon BS-1) is your best bet. 1 fits any camera with hot shoe). If you need a bubble level, consider a 3-axis level ($8-10), but the most important piece of equipment for leveling your camera is a tripod head with fine adjustment knobs ($50 and up). Would I buy this item again? no But if you think you'll like it and you might need more than one, Revain has better deals.
