Review on πŸ”Œ Poihiom USB4/Thunderbolt 4 Cable: 40Gbps 8K Video & 100W Charging | Compatible with Thunderbolt 3 | MacBook, External SSD, eGPU, Type C Docking Station by William Nunes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good cable reasonable price

I use it to connect a 2016 MacBook Pro to a CalDigit Thunderbolt 3 Dock and it works for that. I had never heard of Thunderbolt 4 until I saw this cable, so I looked it up. There is a good article on [pcmag dot com] and info pages on [intel dot com]; Google it yourself as I can't include links in a Revain review. Based on the specs in the listing (you can connect one 8K@60Hz monitor or two 4K@60Hz monitors) this is a true Thunderbolt 4 cable. However, it does not have an official Intel-licensed Thunderbolt 4 icon (Thunderbolt with the number 4). The main difference between 3 and 4 is bandwidth, not faster data transfer. This probably won't matter to most of us since Thunderbolt 4 computers are not yet widely available. There are several new Windows laptops; Apple's new M1 offerings have USB4 but Thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 4 cables are compatible with both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C, so there's no reason not to get one even if you don't have USB4/Thunderbolt 4 hardware with Thunderbolt-3 -Cable.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others
