Machinable but not very high precision parts.

There are a few key points to using this item, but first let me say I was able to get these items to work, but when they were high quality, precision machined parts things could be a little simpler. I wanted a desk closer for my child. I originally bought a knuckle-shaped Sugatsune lid pad that I had previously used successfully on toy boxes, only to find the knuckle touching the bottom of this shallow (3 1/2" deep) desk compartment. As both arms on this item are about the same length I was confident that I could configure it to fold evenly, which I ended up doing - about 5". By moving the attachment point on the side of the container down about 1 1/2" (away from the hole). and 3/4" to the hinge of the lid, I was able to fold it more evenly, so the gap in the depth of the compartment wasn't an issue. According to the attached lid weight chart, my lid is within one leg's adjustment range, but I found that it does the lid after installation on the right side slowly closed to about 40 degrees.and then fell without much resistance even at full friction setting. So that's what I got Setup mirrored on the left, and the lid closed hard but didn't fall hard anymore. Then I removed the right side and lo and behold, the lid was still closing slowly. The loss of resistance was just a minor flaw in a stay. It would work if I just wanted something to hold the lid open and not check if it came off. All of this is consistent with my impression of this device when I first picked it up. It's heavy and strong enough, but it doesn't feel precise. Thunders hard. I probably won't buy these lid stops again, paying about double for the hinge type just because they seem to be made to high tolerances and are more manageable. However, this set of lid stoppers worked for me, and I'm not worried about them breaking under the pressure of kids playing.

Pros
  • Suitable for lids or valves where soft closing is required.
Cons
  • Crumpled
